Emir JI Bangladesh Shafiqur Rahman arrested without any allegation


DHAKA, Dec 13 (SABAH): The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested the Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh Shafiqur Rahman in the absence of any allegation.

According to family members, plainclothes men identifying themselves as law enforcers picked up the Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh emir during the early hours of Tuesday. Deputy Commissioner (media) of DMP Faruq Hossain has confirmed the matter to UNB. However, he did not disclose the details of the arrest and the allegations against the Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh Emir.

JI spokesperson said the purpose of the arrest was to crush the opponents. The police did not reveal the reason behind the arrest.

It is noteworthy here that Shafiqur Rahman had announced to participate protests against prime minister of Bangladesh where it has been facing restriction on taking part in election. In the country, protests against increase in fuel prices and shut down of electricity were ongoing. Opposition parties were demanding of the PM to resign from his position.
