Eminent producer, ex-director current affairs PTV Athar Waqar Azeem passes away in Karachi

KARACHI/ISLAMABAD, Sep 8 (SABAH): Eminent producer-director former director of current affairs PTV, and former senior vice president of Hum Network Athar Waqar Azeem passed away in Karachi. He will be laid to rest in Karachi on Tuesday.

Athar Waqar Azim died of cardiac arrest in Karachi. He was also the director of current affairs and general manager of Karachi Center of PTV. He produced interviews of many heads of state, prime ministers, and sports and Dilip Kumar. He produced interviews with superstars, and covered the historic Sharjah match in which Javed Miandad hit a historic six against India.

He also covered the World Cup in 1987. Athar Waqar Azim was also an excellent singer. Athar Waqar Azim’s professional career spans over 50 years, he was one of the founding members of Hum Network, and Athar Waqar Azim was in the launching team of Hum TV, Hum Masalha, and Hum News among other channels of Hum Network.

Athar Waqar Azim was the son of Professor Syed Waqar Azim and younger brother of former MDPTV and Senior Vice President Hum Network Akhtar Waqar Azim. He is survived by one son.

Meanwhile Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar Advocate has expressed grief over the sad demise of PTV’s former director of current affairs Athar Waqar Azeem.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Attaullah Tarar prayed for higher status for the departed soul and also commiserated with the bereaved family.

The Minister said services of Athar Waqar Azeem for Pakistan Television will always be remembered.

He said the fifty-year professional career of Athar Waqar Azmar is a beacon for future generations.
