Embassy together with Pakistani community commemorates Pakistan Day in Lisbon
LISBON, March 24 (SABAH): On the auspicious occasion of Pakistan Day, a flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Chancery which was attended by a large number of Pakistani community members.
The national flag was hoisted by Ambassador Dr. Muhammad Khalid Ejaz at the tune of national anthem. Messages of the President, Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister/ Foreign Minister were read out before the audience.
The Ambassador, in his speech, highlighted the sacrifices made by our forefathers to achieve a separate homeland for Muslims of Subcontinent, where they could live according to their beliefs and aspirations. He urged the Pakistani community to rise above differences and build a prosperous, inclusive, and just Pakistan. He hoped that the nation could overcome the economic and security challenges through faith in Allah, perseverance and hard work.
The Ambassador appreciated the efforts of the Pakistani diaspora in economic growth and development of the motherland. He called upon the Portugal based Pakistani diaspora, in general, and students, in particular, to further play their positive role in creating soft image of Pakistan and promoting bilateral relations.
The Ambassador urged the community to play its role in highlighting the grave human rights violations being faced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir, who continue to struggle for their right to self-determination. He called upon the international community to take decisive steps to ensure the implementation of the UN Security Council resolutions, allowing the people of Kashmir to decide their future.
