Eight tourists killed, five injured in head-on collision on Babusar Top in GB’s Diamer district
GILGIT, July 28 (SABAH): At least eight tourists, including children, were killed and five others were injured on Friday when a Hiace pickup truck collided head-on with a car in Getidas area of Babusar Top in the Diamer district of Gilgit-Baltistan, according to Rescue 1122.
Diamer Rescue 1122 District Coordinator Shaukat Riaz confirmed the death toll and the number of injured to media.
He said the accident occurred when a Hiace pickup truck carrying 16 tourists and a Mehran with four people aboard rammed into each other at the Babusar Top.
“After the collision, both the vehicles plunged into a ravine and the car caught fire,” Shaukat Riaz stated, adding that the bodies and injured persons were being moved to the Chilas Rural Health Centre.
He further said that the passengers in both vehicles were tourists and their identification process was underway. A rescue operation is also being conducted.
