ECP proposes delay in holding second phase of LG election in KP due to severe cold heavy snow fall in January
ISLAMABAD, Dec 25 (SABAH): Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has proposed the delay in holding second phase of local government election in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to severe cold heavy snow fall in January.
According to a private TV channel, it is expected that the LG second phase elections in KP will be delayed. The Election Commission of Pakistan has started consultations for holding the second phase elections of LG in KP in March or April instead of January.
There is expectation of heavy snowfall in January in KP. The Election Commission has stopped issuance of the schedule for the second phase LG elections till the further orders.
The PML-N and other parties have approached the ECP for deferring the second phase elections in KP due to severe weather conditions and heavy snowfall. Prior to this the ECP had announced in November to hold the second phase of LG elections on 16th January in 18 districts.
It is worth mentioning here that in first phase, LG elections were held in 17 districts of KP on 19th December. Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl had emerged as the single largest party and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf came on second position.
