ISLAMABAD, June 6 (SABAH): The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday issued a show-cause notice to ex-Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader and former information and broadcasting minister Fawad Chaudhry in the ECP contempt case.

A five-member bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner Dr. Sikandar Sultan Raja and comprising member ECP Sindh Nisar Ahmed Durrani, member ECP Balochistan Shah Muhammad Jatoi, member ECP Punjab Babar Hassan Bharwana, and member ECP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Justice (retd) Ikramullah Khan conducted hearing of case against Fawad Chaudhry for use of intemperate language and contemptuous remarks against Election Commission of Pakistan during his media talk on 24.01.2023. The commission issued the show-cause notice to him in the ECP contempt case.

During the hearing, counsel for Fawad, Faisal Chaudhry didn’t appear before the commission. On this, the ECP gave a pause during the hearing of the case; however, afterwards, Fawad’s lawyer did not appear before the Commission due to which CEC Dr. Sikandar Sultan Raja was of the view that Fawad Chaudhry should be issued a show-cause notice as he is summoned once and again but neither he himself nor his lawyer appear before the commission.

The chief election commissioner summoned Fawad Chaudhry to appear before the commission in his personal capacity during the next hearing.

The commission adjourned the hearing of the case till June 15 and ordered him to appear before it in his personal capacity on the next hearing.
