Economic Empowerment of Women at the Heart of Development in Pakistan: WPC
ISLAMABAD, June 22 (SABAH): The meeting of the General Assembly of the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) was held at in the Conference Room of WPC in the Parliament House.
The General Assembly meeting was presided by Dr. Shahida Rahmani, Secretary, WPC. The meeting commenced with a cake-cutting ceremony on the occasion of the 70th birth anniversary of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.
Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf was invited as the chief guest in the ceremony. The theme for the General Assembly meeting of WPC was “Economic Empowerment of Women.” The meeting involved through briefings from the representatives of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) and Islamabad Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IWCCI).
The representatives from each organization delineated the strategies of the pertinent organizations to amplify the financial inclusion of women, including an increase in the ratio of female employees at banks to facilitate female clients, inclusion of financial asset management in the education system and the projects underway to boost entrepreneurship among women.
Towards the end of each presentation, the Honorable Members of the General Assembly made recommendations to improve upon the on-going projects.
