KARACHI, Nov 13 (SABAH): Begum Samina Arif Alvi has said that early diagnosis of breast cancer can save lives as chances of survival are as high as 98% in the earlier stages. She urged the need for women to learn about the early symptoms of breast cancer and inculcate the habit of self-diagnosis.
Begum Samina Alvi made these remarks while addressing Women Empowerment and Breast Cancer Awareness Session held in Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Saturday. She further said that the participants, being ambassadors of this campaign should take active part to create awareness of the dangers of breast cancer if ignored at initial stages. She further stated that the Figures of Shoukat Khanum Hospital regarding Breast Cancer were quite alarming as one patient was being diagnosed every 15 minutes, therefore, early detection and self examination was the only way to counter breast cancer. A healthy and empowered woman could bring about a positive change in society, she reiterated.
She said that women and Differently Abled Person should get benefits from the business loans offered by the government and the State Bank of Pakistan. Begum Samina Arif Alvi thanked the media for supporting the cause of breast cancer awareness through broadcasts and publications as well as through public service messages. The Women Empowerment and Breast Cancer Awareness Session was organized by Karachi chamber of Commerce and Industry. Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Muhammad Idrees, Chairperson Women Entrepreneurs, Durre Shahwar, Dr. Zubaida Qazi and other notables attended the session.
