Dr. Maria Noreen’s research calls for ethical journalism in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD, March 28 (SABAH): Dr. Maria Noreen has successfully completed her PhD in Mass Communication from Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), Islamabad, under the supervision of Associate Professor Dr. Bakht Rehan. Hailing from a remote village in the Thal Desert, she has achieved the remarkable distinction of becoming the first PhD scholar from her area.
In her public defense, Dr. Noreen presented her research titled “Mapping the Political Bias in News Media of Pakistan”, which explores the presence of political bias in English newspapers. Her study highlights that while the sources of bias may vary, its impact remains significant, necessitating a stronger adherence to journalistic ethics and editorial policies.
Scholarly circles have widely appreciated her research, recognizing its importance in fostering responsible journalism. The principal and staff of Government Associate College (Women), Dullewala, where Dr. Noreen serves as a lecturer, have expressed their pride in her outstanding achievement.
Further adding to her accolades, Dr. Noreen has been awarded the prestigious AIOU Research Publication Grant 2025. Out of 800 applicants, she was among 99 scholars selected for this distinguished honor. Dr. Noreen’s journey from a marginalized region to academic excellence stands as a testament to her dedication and perseverance. Her work continues to contribute to media research, education, and social development.
