Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui to leave for US this month to meet her sister Dr. Aafia Siddiqui

KARACHI, May 23 (SABAH): Aafia Movement leader and noted neuro physician of the country Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui would leave for the USA in the last week of this month to meet her jailed sister, Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, a noted educationist.

She would meet Dr Aafia after 20 long years. She would be accompanied by the noted UK born American lawyer and director of UK human rights NGO Three D, Clive Stafford. Dr Aafia Siddiqui for last two decades has been jailed in the US for a crime she never committed.

In a statement issued by Aafia Movement Media Information Cell, Aafia Movement Spokesman Muhammad Ayub said that the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has already instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) to cooperate with Dr. Aafia Siddiqui and lawyer Clive Safford in connection to secure an early release of Dr. Aafia.

During the last hearing Clive Stafford Smith had told the IHC that for securing release of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, active cooperation of the government of Pakistan is a must.

Aafia Movement spokesman hoped that the MoFA and Pakistani Ambassador in the US Dr. Asad Majeed Khan and officials of the Pakistani embassy would ensure the safety and security of Dr. Fowzia and arrange her meeting with Dr Aafia in the US jail in a respectful atmosphere. This would be first meeting of the two sisters in twenty long years. The telephonic contact of Aafia with her family was severed six years ago. Last year, the mother of Aafia, Ismat Siddiqui died on July 2. Six year back two children of Aafia, Ahmed and Maryam were in school and now both are medical students. For the last six years, Dr. Aafia has been unaware about her children and family. The coming meeting between the two sisters is expected to be painfully emotional.
