Dr. Abid Qaiyum Suleri nominated as only South Asian expert Member of COP29 advisory body

ISLAMABAD, July 13 (SABAH): Executive Director, Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), Dr. Abid Qaiyum Suleri has been nominated as member of the prestigious COP 29 international advisory committee, the only South Asian expert, to assist the chair on the global environmental moot’s negotiation agenda.

The decision was made during the inaugural meeting of the COP29 international advisory committee (IAC) held on July 11th.

The 29th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 29)to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, this year from November 11 to 22.

The Republic of Azerbaijan as the President and host nation of the COP29 is committed to engaging a diverse array of stakeholders, including state parties, international organizations, financial institutions, businesses, academia, and civil society, with the aim to deliver an inclusive and impactful outcome of the conference.

The committee will comprise eminent personalities who can offer valuable perspectives on the various pillars of climate action.

It may be mentioned that Dr. Abid Qaiyum Suleri is the only expert from South Asia on this committee, who will be supporting the COP29 President in steering the negotiation agenda of the conference.
