Dr. Aafia Siddiqi meets her sister Dr. Fowzia after 20 years which is ray of hope for thousands of missing persons: Defence of Human Rights
TEXAS, June 1 (SABAH): Defence of Human Rights Pakistan on Thursday said that Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, met her sister Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui after almost 20 years which is a ray of hope for thousands of missing persons.
According to details, both sisters met at the Federal Medical Center, Carswell in Fort Worth, Texas. During the two-and-a-half-hour meeting, the two sisters remained separated by a glass partition. Dr. Aafia Siddiqui informed her sister about her treatment by the US authorities.
Dr. Fowzia shared details of Dr. Aafia’s children with her, but was not allowed by the US authorities to show her their pictures.
Now an adult, at the time of Dr Aafia’s arrest, her son was six months old is young now, whereas her daughter has now become a doctor.
Dr. Aafia is currently undergoing treatment in a federal medical prison in the state of Texas, where women prisoners are provided with special medical and mental health facilities.
The Pakistani national is currently serving an 86-year sentence in the US, following her conviction by a federal court in New York in 2010 on attempted murder and other charges.
Expressing her serious concerns, Chairman Defence of Human Rights Pakistan Amina Masood Janjua said that the two sisters remained separated by a glass partition even they met after a long time of 20 years and added they could not share their grief with each other in true spirits which they were expecting; however, it is a good omen that this phase has emerged which will pave a way for Dr. Aafia’s release.
She further said that Defence of Human Rights prays for her soon release from the US prison and can start a new life in her own homeland and added that they were standing by Dr. Aafia and will go to every possible extent in this regard.
