Does the written constitution of Pakistan have any status or importance left? Senator Irfan Siddiqui’s question on the SC’s decision
ISLAMABAD, July 12 (SABAH): Senator Irfan Siddiqui, the parliamentary party leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in the Senate and Chairman Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Senate, questioned the status and importance of the Constitution of Pakistan 1973 after the Supreme Court decision in the reserved seats case.
In his reaction on social media on Friday, Senator Irfan Siddiqui wrote, “After today’s decision, the biggest question has arisen is whether the written constitution of Pakistan has any status or importance left in terms of law and justice.”
He said that if decisions are to be made on the basis of public sentiment, general speculation and panchayat justice by ignoring the blunt provisions of the constitution and the oath taken under it under any theory of necessity or theory of convenience, then the constitution should be dismissed or at least a written decision to suspend him to the extent of PTI should be given which has actually been given today.
