Do women’s rights organizations also see the plights of Dr. Aafia Siddqui, asks Dr. Fowzia Siddqui
KARACHI, March 08 (SABAH): Aafia Movement leader and noted neurophysician of the country Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui has asked that do the women’s rights organizations also see the plights of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui or still their blind eye is to her sufferings.
On the occasion of the international women’s day, she said that sadly the West has double standards on women’s rights. For it the rights of the Muslim women are outside the dominion of human rights. She said the continuing slaughter of innocent women in Gaza is just one example of the double standards on women’s rights by the West.
She commenting on a recent statement of PML-N leader Ishaq Dar that the new cabinet would take up this issue with the Americans said that in past the PML-N government wasted many opportunities to seek the release of Aafia. However, she thanked Dar that he still remembers the issue of Dr Aafia. She also thanked outgoing JI Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan for his courageous stance on the issue of Aafia Siddiqui.
However, Aafia Movement spokesman Muhammad Ayub appealed the women rights organizations to take notice of the physical, mental and sexual torture of Dr Aafia in FMC Carswell prison of Texas. He said it is also the responsibility of the government of Pakistan to ensure that the basic human rights of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui are not violated in the US prison.
He said Pakistani embassy official Ayesha Farooqui in 2018 had met Aafia in jail and reported about the abuse and torture of Aafia in jail.
He said later American lawyers including Clive Stafford Smith also witnessed the marks of torture on Aafia and reported it to the concerned quarters but to no avail.
He said Clive Stafford Smith has already demanded that Aafia Siddiqui should be shifted from FMC Carswell to some other normal American jail, but he needs active government support in this regard.
