Distribution of ‘blasphemy certificates’ in Pakistani politics is dangerous trend: Izzat Kamal


RAWALPINDI, Sep 29 (SABAH): While lambasting the political victimization on the name of religion in the Pakistani politics, CDA CBA’s Secretary-General candidate and senior leader of Pasha Union, Izzat Kamal Pasha has termed the trend of distributing certificates among opponents  of committing blasphemous actions was dangerous which may lead to take lives of anyone including political heavyweights.

Izzat Kamal Pasha expressed these views while talking to SABAH at his residence at the garrison city of Rawalpindi here on Thursday.

On the return of former prime minister and PML-N supremo Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, he said it will be a good omen for the politics of the country and added he ought to come back Pakistan to represent the masses. 

When asked about his opinion regarding Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s political role, he said that PPP’s has always played positive in the country’s politics, adding that PPP needs to keep continue playing its role to play its role in prosperity of the country.

On the issue of blasphemy, Izzat remarked, “I will request all the politicians to stop this practice. Imran Khan has been being blamed for committing blasphemy on one pretext or the other. Religion card must not be played anymore. This is a matter very sensitive in nature. We need to stop political scoring on the matter lest the situation reaches the point of no return.”

He maintained blasphemy is a highly sensitive issue in the predominantly Muslim Pakistan where suspects are frequently harassed and sometimes lynched by mobs and said God forbid, if it happens and someone is killed mere on suspicions then how much it will be regrettable.

When questioned about Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’role in the country’s politics, Izzat was of the view that all political parties should be given a level playing field and continued discrimination was highly regrettable in connection with this. 

  When asked about his own political role in civic body, Capital Development Authority (CDA), he claimed opposition group Mazdoor Union will be defeated during the elections. Izzat said he has always worked for the safeguard of rights of the poor of the CDA employees.

“My purpose behind taking part in the democratic process of the CDA is to serve the poor employees of the authority and not minting money and my deceased father named Farhat Kamal Pasha acted on the same lines,” he concluded.
