DG ISPR Major General Babar Iftikhar says he has not given any kind of political statement


RAWALPINDI, June 15 (SABAH): Director General Inter-Services Public Relations Major General Babar Iftikhar has said that he has not given any kind of political statement. He said that in the National Security Committee (NSC) meeting the services chiefs and DG ISI had clearly said that no proof of the conspiracy was present. 

This was stated by DG ISPR Major General Babar Iftikhar in an interview with a private TV channel on Wednesday. DG ISPR said that he has not given any kind of political statement, adding that he had given clarification on Wednesday during an interview with a private TV channel on behalf of the services chiefs of Pakistan armed forces. He said that last week the interior minister of the former government Sheikh Rashid Ahmed in a program had commented in reply to a question that in the National Security Committee meeting no services chief said that the conspiracy was hatched and he was trying to convey that he was speaking as their representative. Major General Babar Iftikhar said I clarify this matter in the same program that on behalf of the services chiefs I am their spokesperson and if anything is said about them then I am supposed to clarify that. 

Major General Babar Iftikhar said that in the NSC meeting the services chiefs and DG ISI had clearly said that no proof of the conspiracy was present. DG ISPR said that he talked with clarity on this matter on Tuesday, adding that this was a clarification in that account and nothing political about. He said that it was matter of national security so all the services chiefs and DG ISI was invited in the meeting. He said that the agenda of the NSC is already stated that why this meeting is being held. He said that all the participants especially services chiefs and DG ISI attend the meeting with their input and the input is intelligence based information and this is not personal view point. He said that today someone said it was their viewpoint and this is our viewpoint. 

Major General Babar Iftikhar said that I could tell on behalf of the services chiefs that this was not viewpoint but was intelligence based information and after seeing the text this input was given and that is the reason that whatever political leadership was present there did not include the word “conspiracy” in the NSC meeting declaration. 

Replying a question, DG ISPR said that army has no objection on the formation of the judicial commission on the matter, adding that by all judicial commission or any other commission and forum, whatever the government of the day decides. He said that this option was present with the previous government and is also present with the current government. He said that whatever commission or forum is decided to take this towards logical conclusion, the institution will provide complete assistance or whatever will be required by them from the institution, we will do it. He said that whatever the government decides, the institution and agencies will give complete assistance and will give input and already they have given their input and has given at the highest forum and not once but given twice. DG ISPR said that he has given the stance of the institution in detail and I hope I will be talking about it again.
