DFP urges UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to intervene in escalating human rights crisis in Kashmir
SRINAGAR, April 14 (SABAH): The Jammu & Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), through its Acting Chairman Mehmood Ahmed, has issued a formal appeal to the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, drawing urgent attention to the rapidly worsening political and human rights situation in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IoK).
In his letter, Mehmood Ahmed highlighted the ongoing human rights violations including extrajudicial killings, arbitrary detentions, suppression of free speech, and collective punishment of civilians by Indian forces. He expressed grave concern over the Indian government’s policies of demographic change, marginalization of the majority community, and the silencing of dissent through repressive laws and misuse of the judiciary.
DFP emphasized that the BJP-led government’s actions amount to settler colonialism and aim to erase Kashmir’s political identity. The letter reaffirmed the Kashmiri people’s demand for the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions that guarantee their right to self-determination through a free and fair plebiscite.
Mehhmood Ahmed urged the United Nations to take immediate and effective notice of the situation and to play a decisive role in resolving the long-standing Kashmir dispute in accordance with international law and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
