DFP seeks implementation of UN’s 5th January 1949 resolution on Kashmir
SRINAGAR, Jan 05 (SABAH): Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) has said that the United Nations should fulfill it’s legal and moral obligations to help implement the 5th January 1949 historic resolution, which granted right to self determination to the people of Kashmir.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the DFP spokesman while reminding the UN of it’s obligations towards the peaceful settlement of the lingering dispute said that it was high time that the international community especially the UN should come forward and play its much needed role to resolve the Kashmir issue and stop the ongoing violation of human rights in Occupied Kashmir.
Referring to the highly volatile situation in the troubled region, he said that since 1947 the unresolved dispute has led to widespread deaths and destruction in the Indian occupied territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Kashmiris, he said have been bearing the brunt of violence and India’s state terrorism for the past several decades. “Innocent people of Kashmir are being killed, harassed, humiliated and tortured every now and then by the Indian trigger happy forces”, he said adding Kashmir has been turned into a virtual hell for it’s residents by the India’s fascist regime that was hellbent on changing the region’s demography to convert Muslim majority into minority.
Reiterating his party’s call for holding referendum to allow Kashmiris to determine their political future he said that implementation of the UN Security Council resolutions and holding plebiscite under the auspices of the United Nations was the only way forward to resolve dispute peacefully.
