‘Council for Police Reforms’ demands immediate implementation of landmark IHC decision on Police Order 2002 in Islamabad


ISLAMABAD, Feb 18 (SABAH): “Council for Police Reforms” in its special session held on Saturday in Islamabad in which the situation after the decision of Islamabad High Court on immediate implementation of the Police Order 2002 was discussed.

The session appreciated and welcomed the landmark High Court decision and declared it according to the democratic aspirations of the people and the police order 2002 as a Public – Centric law. It was resolved that Police Order 2002 must be implemented in its true letter and spirit immediately within the mandated time of one month.

This law, when implemented, would curb interference in police working and would help in ensuring independent police investigations. The President of Council for Police Reforms (CPR) Sajid Iqbal Gujjar made a fervent appeal that immediate steps be taken to establish Islamabad Public Safety Commission and Complaint Authority so that public grievances are addressed in proper formal manner.

Chairman CPR Kamaluddin Tipu (Retd) IGP and co-petitioner in IHC Writ petition for Restoration of the Police law Islamabad dilated upon the implications of this judgment. Eminent senior lawyer and general secretary of CPR Rashid Hanif highlighted main points of the judgment and emphasized that this judgment would take people of Islamabad closer to The Rule of Law paradigm and ensure delivery of justice. He declared this as one of the best decisions of IHC. He retorted that all forums shall be approached for prompt implementation of the decision and if the concerned stake holders waver in establishing over sight institutions, a contempt petition shall be filled.

CPR active members Naeem Siddiqi (Media Director), Tahir Arain, Muddasar Fiaz Chuduary, Sardar Ehsaan Abbasi, Amir Raza Advocate, Ayesha Tanveer Advocate, Nasir kiyani, Naveed Sultana, Amir Sultan Raja, Samina Riaz Chaudhry, Muhammad Bin Sajjid and Syeda Lubna Sajjad participated in the meeting and fully supported in taking necessary steps for enforcing the police law for public good.
