Controversial AFSPA is again in limelight after Indian soldiers entered a mosque forcing Muslims to chant Hindu slogans
SRINAGAR, June 28 (SABAH): A new debate has begun on a very controversial ‘Armed Forces Special Powers Act’ imposed in Occupied Kashmir after an incident of Indian soldiers forcing Muslim worshippers in a mosque in the valley’s Pulwama area to chant Hindu slogans.
It’s bad enough they entered but then forcing people to chant slogans like ‘Jai Shree Ram’ due to which the aforementioned acts is again being target. This act was imposed in Indian administered Jammu and Kashmir in 1990 and that this act has also been imposed in North Eastern states of India as well.
It is an Act to enable certain special powers to be conferred upon members of the armed forces in disturbed areas wherein they could arrest anybody without obtaining warrants. They also attack any residence and commercial building and could arrest anybody on the basis of suspicions.
It is noteworthy here that in wake of implementation of this act, there is no way left to register complaints regarding violation of human rights with the prior permission of Indian government.
