Contempt case: ECP gives last chance to Fawad to submit reply

ISLAMABAD, May 2 (SABAH): Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) while hearing the contempt case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Fawad Ahmed Chaudhry warned them of being given a last chance and adjourned hearing of the case till May 16.

Five-member bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Dr. Sikandar Sultan Raja and comprising Member ECP Sindh Nisar Ahmed Durrani, Member ECP Balochistan Shah Muhammad Jatoi, Member ECP Punjab Babar Hassan Bharwana and Member ECP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Justice (retd) Ikramullah Khan conducted hearing of a case relating to contempt of ECP by Fawad Chaudhry on Jan 24, 2023 by using intemperate and contemptuous remarks against the Election Commission of Pakistan during the media talk.

During the hearing, associate counsel for Fawad argued that the case was under hearing at Sindh High Court (SHC). To this Member ECP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Justice (retd) Ikramullah Khan replied, “Have you submitted your power of attorney?” The lawyer replied he was appearing before the Commission as a proxy counsel.  To this, member ECP stated, “In which status you are talking. No one could appear in this manner.”

On the occasion, while giving remarks, CEC said that this case was different as compared to other case of contempt of ECP. He further stated “Fawad would be indicted on May 16 and transmit this message to him.”
