LAHORE, Feb 27 (SABAH): Naib Emir Jamaat-e-Islami and Chairman Central Election Cell, Liaqat Baloch has said that Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan 1973 is a recognized national document.

Liaqat Baloch expressed these views in a statement issued on Monday. He further said that Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan 1973 was an achievement of late Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto who while putting aside his own opinion, ideology and viewpoint took along the opposition for the formation of the Constitution in accordance with the collective conscious of the entire nation whereas opposition leaders also fulfilled their national obligation.

In the statement, he said that since 1973, late Bhutto and Ziaul Haq, Nawaz Sharif, late Benazir Bhutto and Imran Khan did not setup supremacy of law and Constitution as well as democracy and added if the Constitution would have been implemented it would create a spirit of unity among Pakistanis but the case is otherwise as dual standards and violation of Constitution dismembered the whole nation, giving rise to localism, racialism and nationalism.

He further said the state institutions, torchbearers of democracy, civil administration and civil society need to pledge to abide by Quran, Sunnah and Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan 1973 while putting aside their self and personal interests. If judiciary implements Constitution without accepting pressure from any side all the institutions will start functioning properly, he added.

He expressed condolence over the death of 28 Pakistanis, who died after their overloaded boat sank early on Sunday last in stormy seas off Italy’s southern Calabria region and deplored that human traffickers were playing with the human lives whereas the government institutions showing incompetency and committing corruption.

“Why youth was leaving the country? Why are they putting their lives in perils? It is proof of the fact that the country’s economy has been deteriorated. Doors of employment have been shut down. People are no sure about safety of their lives, properties and honor. Dirty game on political, electoral and judicial fronts has disappointed the nation,” he said.

He said that Barkhan incident portrays the prevailing law and order situation of the country and added state, politics and government need to be familiar with their duties. He added they should not destroy the country anymore, saying the national leadership as well as all stakeholders needed to be agreed on national preferences.
