CJP Qazi Faez Isa imposes Rs 5,000 fine on a lawyer for ‘wasting time & misleading the court’

ISLAMABAD, Sep 21 (SABAH): Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Qazi Faez Isa on Thursday imposed Rs 5,000 fine on a lawyer for “wasting time and misleading the court”.

The lawyer named Muhammad Shoaib Khan was fined by the CJP Qazi Faez Isa during the course of a property case. Three-member bench of the apex court headed by CJP Qazi Faez Isa and comprising Justice Aminuddin Khan and Justice Athar Minallah conducted hearing of the cases on Thursday. The amount of the fine will be deposited with a charity.

The chief justice remarked that the petitioner’s lawyer tried to mislead the court, adding “you have lost the trust of the court, this is called the abuse of the process of the court”.

CJP Qazi Faez Isa further said the fine amount should be deposited with a charity of lawyer’s choice. The CJP then asked the lawyer to furnish the receipt to court after paying fine amount to any charity at the next hearing of the case; otherwise the constitutional petition will be dismissed.

The lawyer also tendered apology for wasting time of the court and misleading the court.

Later on the court granted one-month time to the lawyer for preparation of the arguments.
