CJ LHC Muhammad Ameer Bhatti directs Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly to conduct election of CM Punjab on 16th April


LAHORE, April 13 (SABAH): Chief Justice Lahore High Court Muhammad Ameer Bhatti has directed Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly Mir Dost Muhammad Mazari to conduct the election of chief minister Punjab on 16th April. The court has directed to conduct the voting for the new chief minister on 16th April. The court has directed all concerned officials to perform their constitutional responsibilities impartially. The court in its order said that all the employees of the Punjab Assembly will perform their responsibilities according to law and constitution. The court said that all the employees of the Punjab Assembly will cooperate in holding the election of new chief minister Punjab.

The court has rejected the application of Hamza Shahbaz Sharif for holding the election of the chief minister prior to 16th of April. Chief Justice Lahore High Court Muhammad Ameer Bhatti has issued the short order on the petitions filed by Hamza Shahbaz and Mir Dost Muhammad Mazari for holding the election of the chief minister Punjab. The court in its order said that in case the deputy speaker Punjab assembly does not chair the session then any other member according to rules will chair the session and will conduct the election of the chief minister Punjab. The detailed judgment will be issued later on.

It is worth mentioning here that Speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Pevaiz Elahi had confiscated the powers of deputy speaker and had stopped him summoning and chairing the Punjab assembly session. Mir Dost Muhammad Mazari had approached the Lahore High Court against the move of Pervaiz Elahi. Pervaiz Elahi himself is candidate of chief minister Punjab. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and PML-Q had field the no-confidence motion against Mir Dost Muhammad Mazari as deputy speaker Punjab Assembly and PML-N had submitted the no-confidence motion against Pervaiz Elahi as speaker Punjab Assembly.
