Chinese regime implements strict quarantine measures in East Turkistan; leaving people without food items

ISLAMABAD, August 26 (SABAH): Chinese regime has been implementing very strict quarantine measures in East Turkistan within the scope of the “Zero-Covid” policy, and in this context, documents have been reflected on social media that the Chinese regime is applying isolation against human rights without considering the safety, health and living conditions of the people of East Turkistan.

According to the claim of the Chinese regime, the current Covid-19 epidemic in East Turkistan started to be seen in late July. According to the reports of Chinese government news agencies, Chinese officials announced that the current Covid epidemic in East Turkistan is the Omicron variant from abroad. However, RFA reported that new infections in East Turkistan were brought by local Chinese tourists visiting the region.

In the governmental statements announced in East Turkistan, it was stated that those who visit Beijing, Hubei and other inner regions of China are more likely to become infected with the virus.

In the images shared on social media from the region, it is known that people are forbidden to leave their homes in the city of Ghulja, their basic food needs are not met, production and daily life in the city are completely stopped, tradesmen are not allowed to open their shops, the vegetables and fruits in the greengrocers are starting to deteriorate, but the people who are locked in their houses have nothing to eat.

In an interview with RFA here on the other day, a Ghulja resident said that “it has been 21 days since they were all taken home, no deliveries were made even though the authorities said they would supply food, and that he only had potatoes for food in his house.

Another Uyghur says that an infected Chinese broke into their apartment and the next morning, all the residents in the apartment were taken for quarantine, and they found out that the place they were taken to was a “concentration camp”.

The testimonies and documents show that the Chinese regime is committing human rights violations against the people of East Turkistan with completely unscientific methods within the scope of the “Zero-Covid” policy. Our Union closely monitors the situation in the region and takes different steps to stop these human rights violations that are taking place adding to the ongoing genocide.

As the International Union of East Turkestan Organizations, we call on the World Health Organization, the UN High Commission for Human Rights, human rights institutions and countries to take steps to stop the ongoing genocide and human rights violations in the East Turkistan.
