Chairperson BISP Senator Rubina Khalid holds key meeting with Senator Nisar Ahmad Khuhro on expansion of BISP & addressing issues faced by women beneficiaries

KARACHI, Oct 15 (SABAH): Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Senator Rubina Khalid, held an important meeting today with Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Sindh Chapter President, Senator Nisar Ahmad Khuhro, at the Provincial Assembly. The meeting focused on expanding BISP’s reach to women beneficiaries and addressing the challenges they face in accessing the program.

During the meeting, Chairperson Rubina Khalid highlighted BISP’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness, provide training programs, and collaborate with Union Councils (UCs) and women’s organizations for the empowerment of women. She emphasized the importance of financial literacy programs aimed at helping impoverished women across Sindh, enabling their families to become self-reliant and contribute positively to the national economy. Senator Rubina Khalid noted that BISP, in partnership with the Sindh Government, actively works with local UCs and women’s wings to offer skill-based training and support to beneficiaries.

Commenting on the challenges faced by the programme, Chairperson Rubina Khalid stressed the importance of increasing awareness about BISP’s benefits within local communities. She also addressed past criticisms of the program, attributing them to false propaganda, and emphasized that strict action is being taken against those misleading innocent women. Additionally, she directed senior officials to closely monitor the registration process to avoid future disruptions.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both leaders pledged their full support for the expansion of BISP and the promotion of skill development initiatives for the welfare of beneficiaries throughout Sindh. President of the Women’s Organization, Shaughta Jamali, and other senior officials were also present at the meeting.

 Earlier, Chairperson Rubina Khalid also met with Provincial Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani at his office. During the meeting, Chairperson BISP thanked Minister Ghani for the Sindh Government’s decision to issue birth certificates free of charge. She informed him that children of BISP-registered families would soon receive technical and educational support under the newly launched Benazir Skill Development Program.
