Caretaker govt should tell people what errors we have committed in the past: Shabbar Zaidi
ISLAMABAD, Aug 17 (SABAH): Former chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Syed Muhammad Shabbar Zaidi has said that caretaker government should tell the people what errors we have committed in the past and what are the real issues of the country as well as what is to be rectified.
Shabbar Zaidi expressed these views during an interview with a private TV channel here. He further said that though the caretaker government does not deliver properly but it should at least tell the people about the facts that this country was not being run as well as reasons behind it.
He said Pakistan’s economy has been heading gradually towards destruction since last 20 years and there has been no improvement in it at all and remarked, “We just for nothing are hurling allegations at each other for deteriorating economy of the country. Pakistan was saved from bankruptcy due to intervention of the United States and our institutions but not by politicians of the country.”
He maintained, “International Monetary Fund (IMF) is a kind of compulsion for us as we visit the IMF when we are destroyed. Pakistan has been destroyed economically and its responsibility lies upon all. It is unjustified to hurl allegations against each other by shifting its responsibility. Basic features of Pakistan’s economy are not correct ones and we have no interest in putting them on right track.”
“According to IMF, Pakistan needed another 88 billion dollars during next five years. Situation has been deteriorated and it should be mended as hurling allegations against each other is of no use. We have no time to pass luxurious lives,” Shabbar Zaidi warned.
The former chairman FBR maintained that he was contacted for making him part of the interim Cabinet but he could not leave Karachi because of his mother which is why he is not becoming part of the Cabinet. He added he would help the government while sitting out of the government.
Shabbar Zaidi further said he was also offered to take the charge as minister of state for revenue but this short term seemed him protracted one. “As a Pakistani, I am of the view that this setup should work for long period as if non-political makes basic decisions as well as implement them, it would prove better for the coming political governments,” he added.
