Capital’s air pollution climbs to hazardous level, reveals Pak EPA Report

ISLAMABAD, Nov 24 (SABAH): Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak EPA) Report has revealed that the atmosphere of the federal capital has become extremely dangerous for health as the amount of PM2.5 has climbed to 191µg/m³ while the air quality index has reached 241. The amount of toxic particles PM2.5 in the air should not exceed 35µg/m³ in any case.

Data analysis revealed that the air quality index runs dangerously during the morning office hours and from evening to night but despite the air quality in the federal capital Islamabad being toxic, the administration of the federal capital and Pakistan EPA have not issued any kind of advisory and Pak EPA has also stopped issuing the report.

According to this news organization, the amount of toxic particles PM2.5 in the atmosphere has increased to a dangerous level, which should not exceed 35 µg/m³ in any case. Exceeding the prescribed limit of PM2.5 can cause respiratory diseases, lung cancer and even heart attacks. These emissions are caused by the burning of fossil fuels in vehicles and factories.

Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak EPA) has released a report on air pollution on November 21. According to which, the amount of PM2.5 polluted in the air of the federal capital Islamabad has exceeded the prescribed limit. The prescribed limit is 35 µg/m³ while their amount has been reported to average up to 67 µg/m³.

Pakistan EPA (Air Quality) released a report regarding air pollution on November 21, after which no daily report has been released. According to the official report on November 21, the amount of toxic particles PM2.5 has reached 88 µg/m³. 1 am. 51 µg/m³ average from 8 AM to 8 AM while 62 µg/m³ from 8 AM to 4 PM and 88 µg/m³ average from 4 PM to 12 PM.

Despite the increase in toxic particles in the air in the federal capital, Pak EPA has not issued any report on the air, but it has stopped issuing the report on a daily basis. Pak EPA officials were contacted to get their view point in this connection but they didn’t respond. According to the monitoring system installed by the private sector in the federal capital, the amount of PM2.5 has reached 191 µg/m³, while the air quality index has reached 241. The analysis of the data has revealed that in the morning Air quality indices run dangerously high during office hours and from dusk to night.

A study published in the Journal Environmental International by the Center for Productive Medicine of Beijing University, it was stated that the air pollution significantly increases the risk of infertility in both men and women.

During the medical research, the risks of air pollution to the population were analyzed. After analyzing the data of 18 thousand couples in China, experts discovered that the risk of infertility increased by 20% in areas where the pollution rate of small particles was high.

However, it couldn’t be determined exactly how air pollution can cause infertility, but it is already known that polluted particles increase swelling in the body, which can affect the reproductive system of both men and women. According to report, infertility affects the lives of millions of couples worldwide, but there has been little research on the effects of air pollution. Air pollution increases the risk of problems such as premature birth and low birth weight.

According to health experts, if the amount of toxic particles PM2.5 exceeds 35µg/m³, they are extremely harmful to human health. Inflammation, lung cancer, irregular heartbeat and heart attack may also occur. Experts have instructed that citizens must use masks while leaving their homes and avoid going outside unnecessarily
