British Council launches 2024 ‘Your World’ video competition, empowering youth with skills for sustainability

ISLAMABAD, Oct 12: The British Council is excited to announce the 2024 edition of the Your World video competition, a platform where young, creative minds from the British Council Partner Schools network are invited to showcase their talents by addressing pressing global issues through innovative social action videos.

Building on last year’s success, which saw Cadet College Hasanabdal claim the title of national winner after competing with over 90 partner schools across Pakistan, the 2024/25 competition takes on the theme, ‘Skills for Sustainability: Equipping All Youth for the Future.’ This theme aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4, focusing on quality education and fostering a global dialogue around sustainability.

The Your World video-making competition is a flagship activity for British Council Partner Schools across the global network. Participating in the competition is a fantastic opportunity for students to use their creativity, problem-solving and digital skills to compete globally while also providing a window into their own lives, communities, and experiences.

Amanda Ingram, Exams Director Pakistan at the British Council, said “We support peace and prosperity by building connections, understanding, and trust between people in the UK and countries worldwide. With over 75 years of excellence here in Pakistan, British Council provides opportunity through the Your World competition to invite young, creative minds from our British Council Partner Schools network to showcase a three-minute social action video highlighting their unique perspective acknowledging and addressing the core issues, focusing on sustainable practices and innovative solutions for a better world.”

The ceremonies for last year’s winners and participants took place in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, with notable guest speakers such as Zahid Ali Abbas, Secretary of Education and Literacy Department in Karachi; Kanwal Khoosat, Filmmaker and Producer in Lahore; and Amsal Naeem, Filmmaker and Photographer in Islamabad. A total of 92 schools nationwide participated, and students received invaluable insights from a panel of experts on how to tell compelling visual stories, setting them up for success in future competitions.

By participating in the Your World competition, students can apply their knowledge in real-world contexts, develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, learn about social responsibility, foster global perspectives, and enhance communication skills while building cultural awareness. The competition is open to students aged 14 to 17 years studying in British Council Partner Schools
