BISP Chairperson Senator Rubina Khalid envisions empowerment of rural women in GB through agri-livestock training

ISLAMABAD, Sep 16 (SABAH): On the invitation of Governor Gilgit-Baltistan, Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme, Senator Rubina Khalid, attended the Apricot Festival in Shigar, Gilgit-Baltistan, where she highlighted the need and potential impacts of initiatives to empower rural women through training and capacity generation/building ventures.

The festival was a vibrant celebration of region’s rich agricultural heritage, featuring an array of locally produced fruits, herbs, and artisanal goods.

The BISP Chairperson expressed her interest to collaborating with the Food, Agriculture, and Livestock departments of Gilgit Baltistan, to provide training to women farmers. This partnership would bring a revolutionary transformation at the grassroots level by maximizing agricultural productivity, combating poverty, and empowering rural women.

Through this initiative, BISP beneficiaries will receive training in agriculture, cottage industry, and local productivity, enabling them to improve their livelihoods and contribute to the local economy. The Chairperson emphasized the importance of sustainable livelihoods and women’s economic empowerment, highlighting the potential for transformative change.
