Azad Kashmir High Court issues restraining order on PM election till Monday

MUZAFFARABAD, April 15 (SABAH): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir High Court has issued a restraining order on the conduction of elections of the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir till Monday. The Speaker AJK Legislative Assembly Chaudhry Anwarul Haq had suspended the rules in hurry for the election of the new leader of the house after the resignation of prime minister AJK Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan Niazi on Friday.

On Friday, the two-member of the AJK High Court comprising Justice Shahid Bahadur and Justice Ijaz Ahmed Khan conducted hearing on the petition filed by Pakistan People’s Party Azad Kashmir leaders Chaudhry Latif Akbar and Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin. The court while delivering the short order declared the steps of the speaker AJK legislative assembly as wrong and declared the process for the election of PM AJK as null and void.

The High Court has also restrained the Legislative Assembly from further proceedings till Monday. The court has also ordered to follow the law and constitution.

It is worth mentioning here that Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan Niazi has only served for eight months as PM AJK. He was the 13th PM of Azad Kashmir and his tenure remained shortest. Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan Niazi took oath of his office on 5th August 2021. Prior to this from 2006 to 2011, four prime ministers were elected.
