ATC rejects Parvez Elahi’s interim bail a case pertaining to attacking police personnel during a raid at his house
LAHORE, May 11 (SABAH): An anti-terrorism court (ATC) Lahore Judge Ijaz Ahmed Buttar on Thursday rejected the interim bail of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central President Chauhdry Parvez Elahi in a case pertaining to attacking police personnel during a raid at his house.
A case was registered against the former Punjab chief and others at the Ghalib Market police station in Lahore on charges of attacking government employees and interfering in government work.
Following the registration of the case, the PTI ally managed to secure bail from the court in the matter.
During Thursday’s hearing, Elahi’s lawyer submitted a request for exemption from court attendance and maintained that his client could not appear in court on ‘medical grounds’.
The court rejected the former chief minister’s request for exemption and dismissed the interim bail due to the PTI leader’s absence from court.
“Mohsin Naqvi is the culprit behind everything that happened in our house. Mohsin Naqvi is the mastermind of all the bad deeds,” Elahi said in earlier comments to the media. “Mohsin Naqvi’s days as the chief minister are numbered as elections will be held and the PTI will win.”
ATC Judge Ijaz Ahmed Buttar issued the verdict saying it was compulsory for the petitioner to appear before the court to get interim bail. He also rejected a petition seeking exemption from appearance for Parvez Elahi in the court.
Last month, a case was registered against the PTI leader and others at Lahore’s Ghalib Market Police Station for attacking police officials with stones, batons and petrol bombs when a raid was conducted by anti-corruption officials at his house to arrest him.
The case was registered on the complaint of an official of the Punjab’s Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997, Section 324, and others.
The FIR said that 40-50 people present inside the residence of Parvez Elahi hurled stones and resorted to violence. It also said that petrol bombs were also thrown at the police in order to facilitate the PTI president to escape from the scene.
