Army chief should be appointed on merit: Sirajul Haq

ISLAMABAD, Oct 06 (SABAH): Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Sirajul Haq has stressed upon the need of a revolutionary system for the country and that revolutionary, welfare and a successful system is God’s religion. 

Sirajul Haq expressed these views during an interview with a private TV channel on Thursday. He said for transforming Pakistan into an Islamic welfare State; there is a need of establishing Islamic system over here. He stressed upon the need of merit and seniority-based appointment of chief of army staff (COAS) and not according to the will of a single person as the case is with the appointment of chief justice of Supreme Court which is not in accordance with the will of president or prime minister.

Pakistan Army should be brought under a legal frame on the lines of Supreme Court of Pakistan as otherwise past witnessed that Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto while putting aside seniority element appointed General Ziaul Haq as army chief, who toppled the former’s government, adding the same happened with everyone.

He said this is the reason need is arising out to establish a system for the appointment of the army chief by abolishing the discretionary powers of the prime minister as this is the will of 220 million people of the country that the governments and institutions should not be run on the basis of a single person but in the light of a system and principle.

There representatives of mafias surrounding the former prime minister and Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had invested for the sake of their own interests. “We saw during the previous four years that people invested and benefited as soon as they found opportunities,” he explained.

Sirajul Haq said those who differ among the politics of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), were basically immature politically. These are the same people and the difference is only of difference of parties as if uncle was in one political party, his nephew was in another party like Asad Umar is on thither side while Zubair Umar is on hither side. “This is why I call them mafias who occupied political parties and then they use these parties for the sake of their own interests. Their sole motif is minting money,” he said and added Pakistan has been orphan since long but Almighty Allah is protecting this country.

“We are saying from day one that all these persons are non-serious and holding the country hostage since 75 years,” he said. He added even in the closed rooms, all their conversations revolve around their personal interests but not around people’s interests whereas upon disclosure of their individual conversations they astounded that how such news came to fore. Their sole purpose is to safeguard their own skin and interests and to keep on all this, he said.

He said the nation isn’t satisfied with the formation of a committee or holding an inquiry on the matter on audio leaks and there is need of constituting judicial commission so that facts could be brought forth in front of the people. 

Imran Khan’s conversation also came to fore and all these people have same temperament, culture and clubs, Sirajul Haq lamented, and added since day one they know what is the ulterior motif behind doing politics, i.e. just to save their own skin and safeguarding interests of their families and properties.

People once and again tested PML, PPP, PTI but there is no difference among these political parties as for instance PTI has been ruling KPK for 10 years and PPP has been in power since 14 years in Sindh but indeed there is no difference between PPP and PTI.
