Appointment of Army Chief be done on the basis of Constitution, law & merit: Liaqat Baloch


LAHORE, Sep 13 (SABAH): Naib Emir Jamaat-e-Islami and President of the Standing Committee on Political Affairs, Liaqat Baloch has said that appointment of Army Chief be done on the basis of Constitution, law and merit. He said the elements like national institution Army’s respect and honour as well as people satisfaction be also considered during this appointment.

In a statement, while expressing his views on the appointment of Army Chief, Liaqat Baloch said that political leaders used this topic in political gatherings and pressers for political interests which created distance between masses and Army. Appointment of Army Chief be made in such a way that a personality and national institution is not allowed to be made as controversial, he suggested.

Liaqat Baloch said, in the past, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Mutahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) committed undemocratic act while bringing alterations in Army Act, adding that PTI had once again gave an opportunity to the collation government to do so. He said that former prime minister and Chairman PTI Imran Khan was compensating the kindnesses meted out to him by the PML-N, PPP and MQM.

Liaqat Baloch said that Jamaat-e-Islami was in favour of sanctity and protection of all Constitutional institutions and continued that making the Constitutional, national and State institutions controversial is dangerous for the national security.

He said that political leaders forge new narratives for the sake of popularity and exploit the love and affection of masses with them, and continued that political leadership was continuously being exposed in its narratives.

Moreover, he said all the narratives like “Vote Ko Izzat Do, Establishment Ki Baladasti Ka Khatma, America Ki Gulami Na-manzoor and others” had come to naught. Only supremacy of Constitution and law and Quran and Sunnah based system can pave the way towards an Islamic and prosperous Pakistan, he said. He said that a wise political worker was awaking from disclosure of hollow big claims [of so-called ruling junta].

Meanwhile, while talking to workers of Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan, Liaqat Baloch said that workers and volunteers undertook tremendous services during the rescue and relief operations for the flood affected people.

The entire nation is proud of volunteers of Alkhidmat Foundation, he said, and continued that it provided with a constructive and positive course to the young generation through waging a war for calamity-hit masses. Liaqat Baloch said that Jamaat-e-Islami welcomes all the welfare organisations and added assistance of flood victims will be kept continue.
