Appointment of 8 new judges: Meeting of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan to be held today


ISLAMABAD, Feb 09 (SABAH): A meeting of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan will be held today (Monday) at 2:00 PM in the Conference Room of the Supreme Court for the appointment of 8 new judges.

The meeting will be chaired by the Chairman of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan, Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Yahya Khan Afridi. The Commission will consider the appointment of judges to the Supreme Court from the five, five senior-most judges, including the Chief Justices of all High Courts. Among the names under consideration from the Lahore High Court are Chief Justice of Lahore High Court, Miss Aaliya Neelam, Senior Puisne Judge Justice Shujaat Ali Khan, Justice Ali Baqar Najafi, Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh, and Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan.

The names of the following judges from the Sindh High Court will be considered for appointment to the Supreme Court: Chief Justice of Sindh High Court Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui, Senior Puisne Judge of Sindh High Court Salahuddin Panhwar, Justice Muhammad Junaid Ghaffar, Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput and Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro.

The following judges from the Peshawar High Court will be considered for appointment to the Supreme Court: Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim, Senior Puisne Judge of Peshawar High Court Ijaz Anwar, Justice S.M. Attique Shah, Justice Shakeel Ahmad and Justice Arshad Ali.

The following judges from the Balochistan High Court will be considered for appointment to the Supreme Court: Chief Justice of Balochistan High Court Justice Muhammad Hashim Khan Kakar, Senior Puisne Judge of Balochistan High Court Muhammad Ijaz Swati, Justice Muhammad Kamran Khan Malakhel, Justice Zaheeruddin Kakar and Justice Abdullah Baloch.

The following judges from the Islamabad High Court will be considered for appointment as Supreme Court judges: Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court Justice Aamer Farooq, Senior Puisne Judge of Islamabad High Court Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri.
