Ameerul Azeem strongly condemns the violent crackdown on protesting local govt representatives in Peshawar
LAHORE, Jan 1 (SABAH): Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Ameer-ul-Azeem has strongly condemned the violent crackdown on protesting local government representatives in Peshawar, stating that peaceful protest is a constitutional and democratic right of every citizen.
In a statement issued from Mansoorah on Wednesday, he said, “Just as PTI has the right to protest, so does everyone else. The baton charge by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is an undemocratic act.”
Ameer-ul-Azeem criticized the KP government for withholding funds from local representatives for the past three years, pushing them to the wall. “The provincial government has released funds to its own tehsil chairpersons while blocking funds for opposition representatives. This discriminatory practice has left elected local representatives across the province with no choice but to protest,” he said.
He further stated that the PTI-led KP government is disrespecting the public mandate. “The government’s panic in response to the peaceful protest of elected representatives shows its disregard for democratic norms. We demand that the KP government immediately release the funds to local representatives and refrain from further undemocratic actions,” he added.
