LAHORE, Sep 11 (SABAH): Marriage packages were distributed to 30 deserving families in the Community Center Karamat Colony of Alkhidmat Women Wing Trust. In the marriage package, the basic household items are Holy Quran, fancy and common clothes for the bride and groom, kitchen items, dinner sets, trunk, water coolers, jewelry, bags, shoes, and other daily necessities.

In this regard, a simple and dignified ceremony was held under the chairmanship of the in-charge wedding program Talat Khan. The guests Anila Mehmood, Asma Ghani, Rabia Amir, Yasmin Nisar, Rubina Nasha, Rubina Asif Sahiba, Nasreen Munir and respected Shahina participated in the ceremony.

Speaking to the participants of the ceremony on this occasion, Anila Mehmood said that marriage is a religious duty but customs have made it very difficult. She said the parents of many daughters are unable to manage the dowry and in this case many daughters grow old.

She said the dowry is not an obligation. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAWW) gave dowry to his daughter Hazrat Fatima, but there is no mention of dowry related to his other daughters. While serving in other areas of life, she said Alkhidmat also tries hard to share the burden of poor parents with regard to dowry.

Asma Ghani said that Nikah is Sunnah, adding there is no strictness anywhere in Islam, Islam has also made Nikah very simple so that the parents of the boy or girl are not burdened. She said there is no need to book a hall for the wedding and food should be presented with great difficulty, even if a few people are fed simply, the feast will be celebrated. On this occasion, food was also given to the attendees.
