Ali Raza Syed asks int’l community including EU to use their good offices for early & unconditional release of Yasin Malik
BRUSSELS, May 19 (SABAH): Kashmir Council Europe (KC-EU) Chairman Ali Raza Syed has asked international community including European Union (EU) to use their good offices for early and unconditional release of prominent Kashmiri leader Muhammad Yasin Malik.
In a statement from Brussels, Ali Raza Syed said, Yasin Malk has been in jail for last three years on false charges and now Indian authorities want to strictly sentence him on the fake old allegations. Life of Malik is in danger and under the unjust judicial trial, he can be given capital punishment as Maqbool Butt and Afzal Goru had faces unfair trial before.
It is important to mention that an Indian court will hear on May 19 the arguments regarding quantum of sentence for offences leveled against Yasin Malik including terrorist acts and conspiracy to commit terrorist acts, in which according to some experts, the maximum punishment might be life imprisonment.
Ali Raza Syed also wrote a letter to the European Union authorities including Charles Michel, the President of European Council, Ursula Von Der Leyen, President of European Commission, Josep Borrel, High Representative of EU and David McAllister, the Chair of Committee of Foreign Affair of EU parliament.
In his letter, Ali Raza Syed asked the European Authorities to use their good office to pressurize India for early and unconditioned release of Yasin Maliik. Chair of KC-RU also called for unconditional release of rights activists including Khurram Parvez and Mohammad Ahsan Unto, Journalists Sajjad Gul and Fahad Shah and as well as the political activists detained in the Indian prison.
These Kashmiri figures remain in detention under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in one of the most overcrowded and unsanitary prisons in the country for raising rights violations in Indian-administered Kashmir. KC-EU has already launched a campaign in Europe for release of the prisoners a few week ago. For a first step of the move, members of KC-EU holding pictures of the Khurram Parvez, Mohammad Ahsan Unto, Sajjad Gul and Fahad Shah stood for a while in front of main gate the European parliament.
Ali Raza Syed said, these figures are detained because they always helped the people of Kashmir in raising their voices against the Indian brutalism in occupied Kashmir particularly they highlighted the terrible incidents of Indian state terrorism in the occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He said, India can not achieve its evil objectives including concealing war crimes and inhuman acts in occupied land of Jammu and Kashmir.
