A massive national effort underway to restore essential services in the flood-hit areas: PM Shehbaz
ISLAMABAD, Sep 03 (SABAH): Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has said that a massive national effort is underway to restore essential services in the flood-hit areas.
In a statement issued on twitter on Saturday, PM Shehbaz Sharif said that National Highway Authority (NHA), DISCOs, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and other federal departments have done amazing work against the heaviest of odds and largely rehabilitated the damaged infrastructure. My appreciation for all public servants, PM Shehbaz Sharif said.
Meanwhile on the special directions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, restoration of power supplies is continuing in flood affected areas on emergency basis.
The Prime Minister is personally monitoring the restoration of power supplies. In this regard, reports are being presented to him on daily basis.
On the directions of the Prime Minister, all officers of Power Division have been assigned the work to restore power supplies in the flood hit areas.
For the convenience of the public, the contact numbers of the chief executive officers of distribution companies have been given in newspapers and the website of Power Division.
Out of eighty one grid stations of distribution companies affected by the floods, the supply has been restored from forty forty six grid stations.
Initially, Monsoon rains and floods damaged eight hundred and eighy one feeders of 11 KV, which disrupted supplies to nine hundred and seventy five thousand consumers. Four Hundred and Seventy Five feeders have been revived which has restored power supply to seventy thousand and six hundred consumers.
Power supply has not been started from thirty five Grid Statios in order to avert incidents of electrocution in flood hit areas.
Work on Dadu to Khuzdar transmission line of 220 KV damaged by the floods will be completed by tomorrow. This will restore power supply of three hundred megawatts to the affected areas. Work on Sibbi-Quetta transmission line, whose ten towers collapsed due to floodwaters, is expected to be completed by tenth of this month. Work for the restoration of Sibbi-Mach transmission line is also in progress.
Chakdara-Barikot and Swat-Matta transmission lines of Peshawar Electric Supply Companies will also be restored by tenth of this month. Madin Grid Station will be restored by providing it supply from Daral Khawar Generation Plant.
Supply from Five Grid Stations of Sindh and Two of Balochistan will be restored after the receding of flood waters.
