Motorway Police will have to take maximum responsibility for the safety of citizens: Abdul Aleem Khan

ISLAMABAD, Jan 09 (SABAH): On the directions of Federal Minister for Communications, Privatization and Board of Investment Abdul Aleem Khan it has been decided to start pilot project of motorbike service for security and surveillance on Motorways. In the first phase the Motorway Police will start security bike service with its own resources while later it will be further increased.

Abdul Aleem Khan while presiding over a high-level meeting at the Ministry of Communications took notice of the theft of security fences, complaints of cattle and animals coming on Motorways and other problems being faced by passengers, assigned the task of increasing patrolling on Motorways and further tightening security, there. He directed that at the same time 30 to 35 motorbikes should be patrolling in different sectors on the Motorways so that those traveling on the Motorway can feel maximum security and any complaint can be redressed on the spot.

Abdul Aleem Khan directed to adopt an effective strategy to prevent theft of security fences around the Motorways for which the National Highway Authority, Motorway Police, FWO and the concerned district police will take joint steps. Abdul Aleem Khan said that the Motorway Police will have to take maximum responsibility for the safety of citizens and adopt such a mechanism that can make travel on the Motorway as safe as possible. He also suggested bringing more legislative amendments in the powers of the Motorway Police.

Abdul Aleem Khan said that areas on the Motorway where crimes and fence thefts are more common should be identified and the NHA officer and Motorway Police of the area where such an incident occurs will be responsible. Similarly, new fences should be arranged wherever these are broken or stolen on Motorways. Abdul Aleem Khan directed the IG Motorways to follow up fully with the local police in cases of fence theft. He also ordered the Secretary for Communications to submit a report on coordinated measures within a week in this regard. In the high-level meeting, senior officers informed the Federal Minister about the data on Motorways especially security fences and briefed him on necessary departmental measures.
