35% Pakistanis have no trust in the police: Gallup Survey
ISLAMABAD, March 20 (SABAH): More than 3 in 10 Pakistanis (35%) have no trust in the police; urban residents exhibit higher distrust, surpassing their rural counterparts by 10%.
It was revealed during a survey conducted by Gallup & Gilani Pakistan. A nationally representative sample of adult men and women from across the country was asked the question, “We want to ask about some institutions and how much trust or confidence you have in them – Police?”. In response, 15% said ‘very much trust in police’, 22% said ‘somewhat trust’, 15% said ‘very little trust’, 35% said ‘not trust at all’, and 13% said that they didn’t know, or didn’t respond.
In a survey, nearly two-thirds of Pakistanis (62%) said that they have trust in Islamic ulemas and religious scholars, with rural residents showing higher trust than their urban counterparts.

In response, 32% said ‘very much trust’, 30% said ‘somewhat trust’, 10% said ‘very little trust’, 19% said ‘not trust at all’, while 9% said that they didn’t know.
According to another survey conducted by Gallup & Gilani Pakistan, majority of Pakistanis lack trust in newspapers – Only 29% express confidence.
A nationally representative sample of adult men and women from across the country was asked the question, “We want to ask about some institutions and how much trust or confidence you have in them – Newspapers?”. In response, 10% said ‘very much trust’, 19% said ‘somewhat trust’, 14% said ‘very little trust’, 36% said ‘not trust at all’, 20% said that they didn’t know, while 1% didn’t respond.
