13 killed, 25 injured in rain related incidents in Punjab, KP


CHINIOT/GUJRAT/GUJRANWALA/PESHAWAR, Jan 08 (SABAH): At least seven people, including two minors, died and 12 other persons were wounded in separate incidents of roof collapse in Chiniot, Gujrat and Gujranwala on Friday night.

According to details, roof of a dilapidated house located in village Aziz near Chiniot collapsed due the recent heavy rain due to which three persons sustained injuries.

Rescue teams reached the spot and shifted the injured to District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital.

Roof of a house located in Asjad Town area of Gujrat also collapsed due to rain as a result a security guard was killed. The dead body of the deceased was handed over to his heirs.

Separately, two minor children were killed while their father and another child were wounded when roof of a house situated at the Hafizabad Road in Gujranwala due to heavy rain.

Rescue teams reached the spot and shifted the dead and injured to hospital. Rescue sources said that the deceased were identified as five-year-old Asma and eight-year-old Iqra.

Meanwhile six people died and 13 others were injured in rains and snowfall related incidents in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last 24 hours.

According to a report issued by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority in Peshawar on Saturday, eight houses were partly damaged in these incidents.

Relief goods were distributed among the affected families in Charsadda and Dir Upper.

Similarly, district administration and relief departments are busy removing snow from the blocked roads. Meanwhile, entry of vehicles in Galiyat has been banned by the administration.
