Dairy industry needs to be regulated in a supportive way so that it can become a thriving industry in Pakistan: Tariq Bashir Cheema
ISLAMABAD, May 18 (SABAH): Federal Minister of National Food Security and Research Chaudhry Tariq Bashir Cheema welcomed the CEO of Pakistan Dairy Association Dr. Shehzad Amin and Head of Corporate Affairs Division of Engro Pakistan Limited Humza Hashim Rasul on Wednesday
Meeting was also attended by the Secretary National Food Security Captain (retd) Muhammad Asif and Technical Adviser Dr. Akmal Siddique. Tariq Bashir Cheema welcomed the delegation and said that Dairy Industry has huge potential. He said that milk provides necessary nutrition to children as well as adults. Minister said that the dairy industry needs to be regulated in a supportive way so that it can become a thriving industry in Pakistan. He said that it has high potential to provide livelihood to the farmers and the processing side of the food chain.
Tariq Bashir Cheema said that there are challenges in every industry and the government is going to pro-actively address the prevalent issues in the regulation and growth of the dairy industry.
The delegation briefed the minister about the on-going issues of the industry and potential solutions to curtail them. Minister assured the delegation of full support and cooperation in the bigger interest of the country. The delegation apprised the minister of the farmer training, farm development projects and scholarships being given by the Pakistan Dairy Association in order to build capacity in the farmers. Minister appreciated the work being done by PDA. All participants agreed on mutual cooperation in order to develop and implement plans to support industry growth and safety standard of the milk.
