Decision of civilians’ trial in military courts will have far-reaching effects on the country’s politics: Liaqat Baloch
LAHORE, Jan 11 (SABAH): Naib Emir Jamaat-e-Islami and former parliamentary leader Liaqat Baloch, while addressing a delegation of the business community in Lahore and a political consultative meeting in Mansoorah, stated that all government efforts and its global engagements will not yield positive results unless political stability is achieved within the country.
Liaqat Baloch said that the decision in Supreme Court regarding the trial of civilians in military courts will have far-reaching effects on the country’s politics.
He said the increase in remittances is commendable, it is also a reality that the government’s claims and announcements have not provided any relief to the public.
The claims of economic development are merely paper calculations, he said and added the economic wheel remains stagnant. For true economic development, electricity needs to be made affordable, the burden of gas, oil, and taxes should be manageable, he stressed.
If the national leadership restores the trust of overseas Pakistanis and formulates a reliable policy for patriotic Pakistanis abroad, they will prove to be a significant pillar of economic development, naib emir Jamaat-e-Islami said. Strengthening agriculture and the support of overseas Pakistanis are major sources of Pakistan’s strength, he added.
Liaqat Baloch further said that while America should feel the heat of the fire in Los Angeles, it should also feel the burning agony of Gaza, where America’s complete support, patronage, and aid are imposed along with destruction and violence.
He said whatever Donald Trump said before taking the oath, after taking office, he must play a role in establishing peace in the world in the right direction. The US must talk about the release of its prisoners from Gaza, but it should also speak about the release of Palestinians who are subjected to the worst inhumane torture in Israeli prisons and detention centers.
He questioned if human rights are equal for all, why don’t the US and its allies act on them, adding if US President-elect Donald Trump continues with his aggressive stance, the US will become more isolated, and new global alignments will accelerate.
Liaqat Baloch welcomed PIA’s flights to Europe, stating that PIA can become a profitable institution. Rather than selling PIA at a throwaway price, it should be restored on a professional basis, he stressed. Instead of appointing non-professionals and non-commercial individuals to PIA, trust should be placed in experts and PIA’s skilled workforce, he added.
Liaqat Baloch said corruption has destroyed our national institutions, adding the accountability system has been practically eliminated. He said the 106 billion rupees money laundering involved in the import of solar panels is a glaring example of the incompetence of the government and state institutions. All doors to corruption, mismanagement, and the illegal use of power must be shut, he added.
