Imran Khan wants talks be concluded within a defined time-frame: Barrister Gohar
RAWALPINDI, Dec 24 (SABAH): Following a meeting with PTI founder Imran Khan at Adiala Jail, Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Barrister Gohar Ali Khan informally briefed the media at the jail gate, stating that the PTI chairman had been updated on the ongoing negotiations and instructed that the process be concluded within a defined time-frame.
Talking to media outside Adiala Jail on Tuesday, Barrister Gohar said Imran Khan was briefed about the start of the negotiation between the government and PTI teams. Barrister Gohar said Imran Khan has demanded quick development in talks as PTI has genuine demands.
Barrister Gohar said PTI founder hoped that within a time frame positives development will come out of the talks. Barrister Gohar said he has not discussed any international issue with Imran Khan. He said Imran Khan has directed party leaders that PTI chairman, secretary and Information Secretary were authorized to speak about international affairs.
Barrister Gohar highlighted the need for swift progress, adding that the initial meeting of the negotiation committees was informal and preliminary, with some members absent.
He noted that in the next round of talks, the PTI committee would present its demands to the government representatives. Barrister Gohar also mentioned that efforts were underway for the PTI negotiation committee to hold another meeting with the party chairman before the next session. He expressed positivity about achieving substantial outcomes through the discussion.
He said PTI charter of demand will be put before the government during the next round. He said efforts were being made to arrange PTI negotiation team’s meeting with PTI founder Imran Khan. Barrister Gohar said PTI was optimistic about the negotiation process. He said PTI hopes all issues should resolve through the talks.
He claimed all cases against PTI founder are political, bail has been granted in all of them. Barrister Gohar said there was only one reference, which has to be decided next month. Barrister Gohar hoped that, “if there is a fair trial, PTI leaders will also be acquitted and get bail in all cases”.
PTI chairman said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa CM Ali Amin Gandapur could not become part of the negotiation process due to his participation in KP Apex Committee. Barrister Gohar said on January 2, all PTI committee members will be part of the negotiations and PTI will put forth all demands before the government in writing. Barrister Gohar said no talks were made regarding the start of civil disobedience movement.
