Spanish Senate delegation holds meeting with Maryam Nawaz Sharif, discuss bilateral relations & trade promotion


LAHORE, Nov 18 (SABAH): The delegation of the Senate of Spain met with the Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Monday. Maryam Nawaz Sharif warmly welcomed the Spanish Senate delegation.

In the meeting of the delegation of the Senate of Spain, further promotion of bilateral relations, trade and tourism was discussed. On this occasion, it was agreed to increase cooperation in economy, climate change, disaster risk management and environmental pollution.

Maryam Nawaz expressed her grief over the loss of life and property due to the floods in the Spanish city of Valencia and offered cooperation. She appreciated the relief package provided by Spain under the flood response plan in Pakistan. In the meeting, the street attributed to Allama Iqbal in Cordoba, Spain was also mentioned.

Speaking to the delegation, Maryam Nawaz said that Spain is the second largest export partner of Pakistan in the European Union, adding there are numerous opportunities for mutual trade. She noted they heartily appreciate Spain’s support for achieving GSP Plus status, adding “We value the long-standing and fraternal relations with Spain.”

She said that they want to work together on early warning system and rescue services to prevent flood damage, adding Punjab is being made a tourist hub and will welcome investors from Spain. Maryam Nawaz said that a special package is being prepared for foreign investors.

Maryam Nawaz said special focus on women empowerment is being given, adding the number of women members of assembly has already increased. The parliamentary delegation of Spain said that it is very welcoming to have a woman on the post of Chief Minister, adding Maryam Nawaz is carrying out the affairs of the province in a smooth manner.
