Jamaat-e-Islami will knock the doors of court against constitutional amendment: Hafiz Naeemur Rehman

LAHORE, Oct 24 (SABAH): Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has said that whether it is Justice Yahya Afridi or Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, the appointment of judges through constitutional amendment is not a problem of an individual but that of procedure as the principle of seniority should have been maintained.

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman expressed these views while talking to the media persons after attending the Mega Plantation Drive held under the auspices of Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan as a special guest.

Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan’s Vice Presidents Dr. Mushtaq Mangat, Syed Ehsanullah Waqas, Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore’s Emir Zia Uddin Ansari, Alkhidmat Lahore’s President Engineer Ahmad Hammad Rashid, Secretary Information Qaiser Sharif and other guests, along with students of various universities and colleges as well as volunteers participated in large number.

Emir Jamaat-e-Islami remarked, “I am surprised why the PTI gave names to the parliamentary committee for the appointment of the Chief Justice, if they did not give the names, the status of the committee would have been questioned.”

He said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was told not to engage with the government, adding Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) sabotaged the entire judicial process. He said from regime change in 2022 to today the PDM has done injustice to the country and democracy. He added Jamaat-e-Islami will go to court against the constitutional amendment while lawyers support the movement. Their position is justified that the whole process was done by the Parliament which has no mandate, he said and added the main problem is that the parties which should have taken a stand against Form 47 compromised and accepted the fake Parliament.

As a result of withdrawing from their position, the government got the power of doing the things according to its own wishes, he said and added it will spoil the Constitution of 73 by bringing more laws of its choice. He said whoever participated in the constitutional amendment process will not be remembered in good terms by history. All political prisoners including founder PTI should be released, he added.

He said that PTI agreed with JUIF chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on the constitutional amendment while they are opposing now then why did they agree earlier which is why the whole case is becoming suspicious. He said that PTI also compromised on its narrative and stand regarding Form 47. Jamaat-e-Islami still demands that a judicial commission be formed to investigate election rigging, he urged.

Regarding the event, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said that due to rapidly changing weather conditions globally and ineffective government policies, pollution and smog are increasing alarmingly, adding big cities have become gas chambers. He said the citizens face respiratory issues and other diseases due to oxygen deficiency and pollution which is also overburdening hospitals.

Alkhidmat Foundation’s achievement of planting 11 lakh trees while surpassing its target of 10 lakh is commendable initiative, he said and added every Pakistani should participate in this regard.

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman emphasized that if effective measures aren’t taken, problems will escalate in the coming years. He noted that Pakistan’s forest cover is less than 5%, whereas the global standard is 25%. Pakistan needs to increase its forest cover to at least 10% for environmental stability, he noted.

He said that Pakistan is among the most affected countries in the world due to climate change. In the last two decades, Pakistan has lost more than 10 billion dollars due to this and every year floods, droughts and glaciers. He said high temperatures, unpredictable rains, floods, and water scarcity have affected agriculture, food security and general life. A clear reduction in these problems can be achieved by planting more trees, he added.’
