Entire package of constitutional amendments was designed to win over the judiciary: Liaqat Baloch

ISLAMABAD, Oct 22 (SABAH): Naib Emir Jamaat-e-Islami, former parliamentary leader Liaqat Baloch has said that in order to maintain a long-term rule, the constitution was played with which will become a source of further instability in politics, democracy and parliamentary system.

In an interview to television and YouTube channel representatives in Islamabad, Liaqat Baloch said that Senior Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah has rightly pointed out that the division of the Supreme Court will become a source of new confusion and tension, adding the entire package of constitutional amendments was designed to win over the judiciary. He said the establishment will be strong and but on the other side Shehbaz Sharif government will be constantly blackmailed in result of the constitutional amendment carried out with the support of allies and rented people.

He said through the constitutional amendments, a new alignment has been made in the coalition government under the leadership of PPP, the task that was to be taken from the Muslim League-Nawaz has been taken, so there may be a new scenario of government formation in the near future. He noted an independent judiciary is one of the most important objectives of the Constitution of Pakistan, but the basic spirit of the Constitution was violated.

Naib Emir Jamaat-e-Islami further said it is also true that judicial hyperactivity has created many problems, the division of judges in the judiciary has also created many crises, but turning the independence of the judiciary into slavery is not the solution.

Liaqat Baloch said that the Jamaat-e-Islami has contacted senior lawyers and the leadership of the Lawyers Movement in this regard. Jamaat-e-Islami will struggle for independence of judiciary at public level, he said added the whole nation cannot silently tolerate the destruction imposed on the constitution, democracy, parliament and political freedoms.

He maintained that the Jamaat-e-Islami is working on recommendations for reforms to achieve constitution, laws and justice. It is a fact of history that legislation designed for malice and supremacy becomes a trap for its creators, he said and added the national leadership should learn from the past, mistakes and failures should not be repeated.

Liaqat Baloch said if the coalition government abuses its powers in the appointment of judges through constitutional amendments, such a move will act as a red carpet for the resistance movement across the country. He said for constitutional amendments, the establishment and Shehbaz Sharif government have taken steps to increase general unrest.
