ECP reserves decision in cases of LB elections in Islamabad, Sindh, 

ISLAMABAD, Nov 10 (SABAH): Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has reserved its decision on two separate petitions regarding local bodies elections in federal capital Islamabad and Sindh.

Two member-bench of ECP comprising Nasir Durrani and Shah Muhammad heard the cases.  

The federal government on Wednesday pleaded with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to grant more time for holding the local bodies’ elections in the federal capital.

The secretary interior said that the federal government is chalking an effective system for the LB polls, and added that the new LB law is now on the agenda of the cabinet committee for legislation.

The ECP said that the government can make the law soon if it wants and if it wants to delay the process, it can postpone a single meeting for six months.

Meanwhile JI Karachi Ameer Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman appeared before the commission and contended that Pakistan Peoples Party led government using delay tactics and not ready to transfer the powers to local bodies, he demanded of the commission to take stern action against provincial officials. 

Secretary local government of Sindh appeared and requested ECP to grant time for legislation and other steps.

ECP warned provincial official that if new law would not be enacted than LB elections would be held through prevailing laws. Despite notices Chief Secretary Sindh has not appeared, commission observed.
