ISLAMABAD, Sep 29 (SABAH): In Pakistan, the total number of individuals officially documented as afflicted with the hereditary coagulation disorder hemophilia exceeds 4,500.

Hemophilia is a genetic blood disorder attributable to a deficit in the coagulation factors, specifically factor 8 and factor 9. The population of registered individuals diagnosed with hemophilia in Pakistan surpasses 4,500. This condition can lead to episodes of hemorrhaging, which may prove to be life-threatening in the absence of appropriate medical intervention.

The delegation representing the World Federation of Hemophilia and the Pakistan Hemophilia Welfare Society, comprising notable members such as Rana Safi, Don Rutilini, Dr. Emna Guider, Devon York, Connor McCoon (an envoy of WFH), Dr. Tahira Zafar, Dr. Lubna Zafar, Dr. Zahida Ahmed, and Dr. Farooq Sujeel, convened with the Director General of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Shabana Saleem, to discuss the challenges confronted by individuals with hemophilia.

The Director General of the Ministry of Health has provided assurances regarding the potential provision of comprehensive treatment options for patients suffering from hemophilia.
